What a year for Nissan 1969 was! Not only did the company unleash their indomitable Skyline GT-R on the world, but they also gave us the seductive S30-bodied 240Z, a car that would go on to spawn a line of class-defining coupes that seem to only get better with age. And with 2019 being the 50th anniversary of the Z car, we felt it only fitting that these icons got their own special issue dedicated to them.
Kicking things off on the cover is the most modern of our Z car stars, Scott Pates’ supercharged and air slammed 370Z. Wearing Rotiform rims and packing 500bhp from its charged V6 motor, it’s a rule-breaking show car that proves that pushing boundaries is what the modifying scene is all about.
And we couldn’t have a Z car special without featuring the most iconic model of them all – the 240Z. With a tuned 225bhp 2.8-litre motor and a Tornado fighter jet gearstick, Tony Lamb’s 240Z is a bronze bomber with a modern, and tongue-in-cheek, twist – see for yourself on page 38. We’ve also got Matt Neale’s perfect purple 300ZX and buying and tuning guides for the 350Z to help you bag and tune a bargain. Rounding off our Z car special is our historical look back over the evolution of these extra special coupes to see where they all began, and even where they are going.
Aside from all our Z car content, we’ve also got Scott Radcliff-McClelland’s miniature marvel – a Liberty Walk-kitted Honda S660 Kei car, plus Liam Goodjohn’s epic Mitsubishi Evo III, a car that was supposed to kerb his spending on modified motors, but ended up being his most extreme creation yet!
